What we love and hate about PT-141:

PT-141 is the first FDA-approved drug for low women’s libido, but works equally effectively for men. In a world where Viagra and other drugs have helped men with E.D., there is finally something for women. However, we do hate the side effects unfortunately as we have found most people who try it cannot tolerate the nausea. If that is the case, however, all is not lost. There are two other things to trial and those would be 1. formulate the PT-141 as a nasal spray and micro-dose it to build tolerance then switch to injections or 2. simply switch to Melanotan2 (MT2) which has other benefits as well, and although not as potent, certainly works (as PT-141 is a derivative of MT2). PT-141 is fairly inexpensive, so it’s an easy one to trial and see if it works for you.

pt-141

PT-141 is a new peptide that received FDA approval in 2019 to treat some female arousal problems. PT-141, a melanocortin receptor agonist, binds predominantly to the melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) and has a slightly lower affinity for the MC1R.

It has been extensively explored in a variety of settings, with a particular emphasis on its ability to regulate inflammation and improve the efficacy of existing anti-infective medications. PT-141, along with numerous synthetic melanocortins, is gaining popularity for its ability to control hunger and encourage weight loss. Let’s take a better look at this peptide and see what it’s all about.

What’s PT-141?

Sexual dysfunction, particularly erectile dysfunction (ED), is more frequent than often believed. According to studies, around one-third of all men will experience erectile dysfunction at some point in their lives. This syndrome not only prevents people from engaging in sexual activities, but it also strains relationships with their partners.

Having trouble maintaining a firm erection or feeling dissatisfied during intercourse can be quite frustrating. Peptides such as PT141 seek to address these difficulties thoroughly.

PT-141 is a synthetic peptide derived from Melanotan 2 (MT2) and, consequently, an artificial derivative of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). This peptide has been subject to investigation for the treatment of certain arousal disorders, acute hemorrhage, infection, cancer, and weight loss. PT141 peptide is aimed to address a variety of problems linked with sexual dysfunction, including:

  • Poor sexual arousal
  • Low libido or sex drive
  • Poor erection quality
  • Difficulty maintaining an erection
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Lack of pleasure or orgasms

PT-141 aims to mimic the body’s natural processes that stimulate sexual desire and strong orgasm. This has led some to refer to the FDA-approved version for women as the “female Viagra.” However, unlike Viagra and Cialis, the PT-141 peptide is thought to have far fewer and less severe negative effects. Nevertheless, the FDA has investigated and approved PT-141 peptide for the treatment of female hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).

How Does PT-141 Work?

Its mechanism of action involves the activation of melanocortin receptors in the brain, specifically targeting the MC4R. Administered through subcutaneous injection, PT-141 functions by stimulating the release of chemicals in the brain that promote arousal. Its ability to improve libido has been demonstrated to increase physical arousal and genital circulation, thereby enhancing the filling and function of erectile and other genital tissues in both men and women.

PT-141 has been studied for the treatment of some arousal disorders, acute bleeding, infection, malignancy, and weight reduction. While it mostly binds to MC4R, it has a modest affinity for MC1R. Unlike common oral medications like Viagra, PT-141 acts directly on the nervous system to stimulate arousal. This direct action minimizes the risk of side effects such as priapism (prolonged and often uncomfortable erection), headache, and congestion. Additionally, PT-141 may stimulate the release of dopamine which can also have positive effects on arousal.

Benefits of PT-141

PT-141 can be administered through subcutaneous injection or inhaled through the nose to address sexual dysfunction. Notably, PT-141 is recognized for its rapid onset of action, typically taking effect in less than one hour. It offers various benefits for both men and women dealing with diminished sexual desire and capability.

Beyond addressing sexual dysfunction, PT141 peptide is reported to enhance various aspects, including:

  • Sex Drive
  • Low Libido
  • Sexual Performance
  • Sexual Arousal
  • Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
  • Treatment for Infections
  • Hemorrhage Treatment

Importantly, the benefits of increased sexual function extend to other areas of well-being. Men and women who have good sexual lives frequently have more self-confidence. Furthermore, a healthy and active sex life has long-term health benefits, including improved mood, focus, and energy levels.

Cons of Using PT-141

PT-141 is not only effective in treating sexual dysfunction but does so with minimal associated health risks. The peptide is generally considered to have few, if any, reported side effects, making it a safer option for addressing erectile dysfunction compared to substances like Viagra.

With that said, the brand name version Vylessi leaflet suggests that 40% of participants in human trials indicated nausea. We have, unfortunately, found this to be the case in most people anecdotally which is disappointing.

Mild fatigue, dizziness, or headaches are possible, but more severe side effects like blurred vision and vomiting are uncommon. In very rare cases, some users have experienced higher heart rate and blood pressure. It is critical to monitor blood pressure when taking the peptide to avoid potential cardiovascular problems.

It is best to contact a doctor before starting any new supplement, especially if you have a pre-existing cardiac disease. Individuals with high blood pressure should use caution or avoid taking the peptide altogether.

What’s the Dosage?

Unfortunately, there is no universal standard for the correct dosage of PT-141. As the peptide is not regulated by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), there are no officially published dosage guidelines from the U.S. government.

Those who have experimented with the peptide say that the proper dosage is determined by a variety of circumstances. Body weight, genetic and biological factors, personal health history, and concurrent drugs or supplements all have the potential to impact the recommended dosage.

However, a common PT-141 dosage ranges from 1.5mg to 1.75mg per day, and the peptide should not be injected more than once per day. Many specialists recommend not using the substance more than 8 to 10 times per month. It is typical to experience pain, inflammation, or discomfort at the injection site, hence new users are frequently advised to rotate injection sites on the body to avoid long-term complications.

Conclusion

PT-141 is an FDA-approved synthetic peptide designed to address sexual dysfunction, particularly in women. Derived from Melanotan 2, it activates melanocortin receptors in the brain, focusing on the MC4R to stimulate chemicals that enhance arousal. Unlike traditional medications, PT-141 has a rapid onset of action, showing effects within an hour. It is recognized for its benefits in improving sex drive, libido, and sexual performance, treating erectile dysfunction, and potentially aiding in infections and hemorrhage. PT-141 is considered safe with minimal side effects, offering a viable alternative to medications like Viagra.
